Either you are gifted with grit as a personal trait or you can work hard to train your mind and acquire it. The dictionary defines grit as a “determination that makes it possible for somebody to continue doing something difficult or unpleasant”, simply put, it is the consistency which makes the biggest difference in whatever we do.

I’ve unsubscribed to the hard copy of Times of India (ToI) and Economic Times during the pandemic but before that, if I can recall, for over three years the city edition of Times of India consistently had a newspaper ad from Bantia Furniture, a Hyderabad based affordable lifestyle furniture store. Yes, one ad every single day. Consistently.

One of the many print ads from Bantia Furniture

Whatever the deal Bantia Furniture and Times of India may have, the one thing I remember is looking at the varying sizes of ads on different pages of the ToI paper. Just browse through various ads of the Bantia Furnitures at Advert Galley I may not have bought anything from Bantia’s till now but their consistency of having one ad in the newspaper every single day offering their range of products would have captured many’s attention increasing the walk-ins in their store.

Talking about consistency, I wish to mention about my financial/ insurance advisor who has won clients not just by selling right products but his sheer passion towards helping people understand the importance of insurance policies, giving a comparison on various options, documentation of your final selected policy, reminding the due dates, educating through links on financial news and personalizing it all by wishing you on your birthday’s. Would love to share his contact details in case you are looking for a right advisor!

It’s been months when I last posted a blog. Though, I kept making notes of my ideas but could never write and post them. On a positive note, the calendar changed from 2020 to 2021, basically, a transition from 0 to 1. One of my favourite book, Zero to One – Notes on Startups, or How to Build The Future by Peter Thiel talks about how doing something what someone already knows how to do, takes the world from 1 to n. But when we do something new, we go from 0 to 1. The pandemic was new and we all have learnt so much in our lives from it.

The next Bill Gates will not build an operating system. The next Larry Page or Sergey Brin won’t make a search engine are such thoughtful adages. I feel it stands true to the year went by and the new year we all have stepped in.

Zero to one represents the optimistic view of the world. Every day of the year will inspire us to be thankful of what we have and work towards our goals to go from zero to one to n and n+1.

Here’s to a great journey to all of us!
